The president emphasized the urgency of creating a \u2018National Consensus Government\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the country is currently in <strong>a state of shock<\/strong>, elections should be avoided for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong> National Consensus Government<\/strong>, as said, should be composed of top-quality professionals to provide solutions for the existing problems and the emerging ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, 17 political parties demand Nikol Pashinyan\u2019s resignation from the premiership, claiming that none of them are after power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, the biggest question comes up. <em>Who will succeed Nikol Pashinyan?<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The truth is, there aren\u2019t too many candidates. Or at least, not many that the people of Armenia and the diaspora approve of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protests organized by the<strong> 17 parties <\/strong>are not very crowded. While the prevailing majority of Armenians want the losing leader and the government to resign, they don\u2019t want the \u2018old regimen\u2019 back. And this is exactly what Armenians associate the 17 parties with, among which is the Republican Party of Armenia that was rejected back in 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was in April 2018 that Pashinayn declared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-43948181\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Velvet Revolution<\/a>, with the famous slogan being \u2018reject Serzh\u2019. <strong><a aria-label=\"Serzh Sargsyan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/oc-media.org\/former-armenian-president-serzh-sargsyan-indicted-for-corruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Serzh Sargsyan<\/a><\/strong> gave way to the \u2018people\u2019s candidate\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Armenia Is Country of Destination, Country Of Transit &amp; Country Of Origin<\/p><cite>A country in process of change &#8211; People want to be part of the change<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, that people want the resignation of their candidate, they don\u2019t know who will come next. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The somewhat fanciful fear of the former authorities seems to be bigger than the rational panic of losing the homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to the possible candidates for a temporary PM, there aren\u2019t too many options, possibilities, and assumptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rumors spread about the suggestions of the 17 parties being <strong>Vazgen Manukyan<\/strong>, the former prime minister (1990-1991) and the minister of defense (1992-1993) of Armenia, and Artur Vanetsyan, the former director of the National Security Service and the leader of the \u2018Homeland\u2019 party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to some sources, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hrant.bagratyan\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Hrant Bagratyan<\/a><\/strong>, the minister of economy (1991-1993) and the former prime minister of Armenia (1993-1996) is a candidate the political parties calling for Pashinyan\u2019s resignation are suggesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0540\u0561\u0580\u0581\u0561\u0566\u0580\u0578\u0582\u0575\u0581 \u0540\u0580\u0561\u0576\u057f \u0532\u0561\u0563\u0580\u0561\u057f\u0575\u0561\u0576\u056b \u0570\u0565\u057f\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H86ZJWoMkF8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While many people don\u2019t see Bagratyan in the role of the PM, it is a fact that many affirmations the former prime minister made in his controversial interviews a few months ago turned out true. Azerbaijan didn\u2019t let the moment slip as Armenia was weakened by the economic consequences of COVID-19, although the war had most likely been planned long ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the economic situation is worsened due to the 44-day war, and there is still a lot to be taken care of, the candidacy of Hrant Bagratyan, a former PM and mastermind in economy, could be considered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If not a temporary replacement for Pashinyan<\/strong>, Bagratyan can still have his contribution to getting out of the crisis given a position in the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Almost all candidates being rejected<\/strong>, people are looking for other options. someone that isn\u2019t closely tied neither with the present clan nor to the past authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the magical appearance of \u2018new\u2019 politicians holding legitimate power is nearly impossible, people have started looking into candidates that are not only accepted by the society but also qualified to solve the urgent issues caused by the document of capitulation. And most importantly, to further negotiate with Baku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among such candidates is <strong>Raffi Hovhannisian<\/strong>, the first foreign minister of Armenia and the co-founder of the <strong>\u2018Heritage\u2019<\/strong> party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"825\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/themes\/veen\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia.jpg\" alt=\"Opposition leader Raffi Hovannisian at a rally of his supporters (PanArmenian Photos)\" class=\"wp-image-736\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia.jpg 825w, https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Raffi-Hovannisian-as-PM-Of-Armenia-675x450.jpg 675w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 825px) 100vw, 825px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While Hovahnnisian has been silent in the last few months and only published an <a class=\"rank-math-link\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/author\/raffi-k-hovannisian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article in <em>New York Post <\/em>on war<\/a>, many remember the remarks he made about the risks Pashinyan\u2019s government was running in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xshz7aX4jew&amp;feature=emb_logo&amp;fbclid=IwAR3Q3kMw-uGpd-F-8ZhRveDtsMAT0ZWnf_Z3K2rimRE3Vn1vdRyvUKCvcbY\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interview with Shant Tv in <\/a><a aria-label=\"January (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y7wCeMEqEI8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">January<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xshz7aX4jew&amp;feature=emb_logo&amp;fbclid=IwAR3Q3kMw-uGpd-F-8ZhRveDtsMAT0ZWnf_Z3K2rimRE3Vn1vdRyvUKCvcbY\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0540\u0565\u057c\u0561\u0576\u056f\u0561\u0580\/Herankar-\u0550\u0561\u0586\u0586\u056b \u0540\u0578\u057e\u0570\u0561\u0576\u0576\u056b\u057d\u0575\u0561\u0576\/Raffi Hovhannisyan\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y7wCeMEqEI8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hovhannisian then warned about the upcoming war, stating that on the background of Turkey and Azerbaijan getting more and more aggressive, the ambiguous expressions of the PM of Armenia could eventually lead to unfavorable conditions for negotiations and the authorities of Nagorno Karabakh themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Hovhannisian stated, Pashinyan\u2019s approach that the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be acceptable not only for Armenians and Artsakhians but the people of Azerbaijan as well could be misinterpreted. In the meantime, <a href=\"https:\/\/armeniaglobe.com\/hy\/6-times-ilham-aliyev-lied-in-front-of-the-nation\/\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Ilham Aliyev<\/a> demanded capitulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bX6CGMpo4dk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In another interview,<\/a> back in December 2019, Hovhannissian did express his concerns about the unfavorable geopolitical situation and the urgency of Pashinyan and his government taking steps toward improving it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a presidential candidate in 2013 that got over half a million votes (over 35%), falling behind only the winning candidate Serzh Sargsyan, Hovannisian could be the one to bring balance to the unsteady political field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another solution is bringing to power someone outside the political scandals and with a \u2018neutral\u2019 stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombuds.am\/en_us\/site\/AboutOmbudsMan\/21\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Arman Tatoyan (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Arman Tatoyan<\/a>, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia<\/strong>, can be the candidate to not only help the authorities to overcome the turbulences but also satisfy a vast majority of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0540\u0565\u057c\u0561\u0576\u056f\u0561\u0580\/Herankar-\u0531\u0580\u0574\u0561\u0576 \u0539\u0561\u0569\u0578\u0575\u0561\u0576\/Arman Tatoyan\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eh_IEEGum4c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As many have been satisfied with Ombudsman\u2019s service during the war and after it, as well as with his impartial observations on the situation currently,<strong> Tatoyan can be the short-term prime minister to bring stability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In any case, the country is now on the verge of collapse.
